Thinking about my birthday post from the Lower East Side last year reminded me about this amazing meal I had at SET not too long ago. It’s only a few blocks away from Hotel Indigo where Stephen and I stayed last December, and I’m a little bummed we didn’t get to check it out then.
On a warm summer evening, I went to meet some family friends who have an apartment nearby at SET as per their recommendations. The large windows were wide open, and the place was pretty packed with people sitting at high-tops. It apparently was Happy Hour during one of the more important basketball games (don’t ask me, I just assumed because it was blasting from all the TVs) so seating was limited but we got a nice nook in the corner.
The waitress passed us our menus and one page was the specials of the day. Their Taco Special was 3 tacos for $14, and you could mix and match them. I chose the Bulgogi Cheesesteak Taco – Korean BBQ marinated sliced rib eye steak with scallions, onions, green/red peppers, sriracha mayo, and chipotle aioli. The flavors tasted great together, and I know this is something Stephen would love (enter: him dragging me to Philly to eat cheesesteaks).
We also ordered a side of wings to share. We ended up with the tangy soy garlic flavor because spiciness is not an option for them. I will say though, the wings were cooked great and the sauce not too sweet.
The last appetizer we shared before we had to head out (the basketball game was getting pretty wild at this point) was the charbroiled oysters. I forget what flavor these were, but it was very tasty and perfectly seasoned.
I’m so glad they found this place, especially in one of our favorite areas in NYC. Gotta bring back Stephen next time!
