Philadelphia Distilling was the first craft distillery to open in the state of Pennsylvania since Prohibition. Although I’m more of a beer gal personally, I was intrigued enough to check this place out during our Philly trip.
Walking in, you’re immediately flooded with light from the floor to ceiling windows. It’s such a gorgeous location – what appears to be an old warehouse of sorts. Behind the bar you can actually see the distillery portion segmented off through the massive clear windows.
Our mixologist, Kanyun, made us each our own personalized drink based on flavors we told him we liked.
Honestly, can’t recall what he made us. I do know that we enjoyed both, and the presentation was equally appreciated.
Although they’re known for the Bluecoat Gin, they have spread out to other liquors as well, such as vodka, absinthe, and whiskey.
Kanyun then took us behind the scenes to give us a little history/distillery tour. Opened in 2015, they have been selling liquor (most notably their dry gin) internationally including countries such as Italy, France, and Spain.
Their Bluecoat American Dry Gin is their famous gin that won the double gold medal in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It has a very smooth texture and easy to drink (even for a non-gin-drinker such as myself).
We finished it off with another cocktail made by Kanyun with their malt whiskey in collaboration with Yards Brewery Co.
Definitely worth a visit to their distillery in Fishtown.
