For the past few months, Stephen and I have been ordering Indian food from different local restaurants, trying to find our favorite. Well, I think we finally found it at Yaar Indian Restaurant, off the Ditmars train stop in Astoria.
We typically start with the basics such as Tikka Masala and Samosas to judge the differences between restaurants, but since we’ve tried Yaar so many times, we ventured out to different items to try.
This was the Pakoras – fried onion fritters. They were perfectly spiced and not at all soggy – actually more crispy than anything.
Although not the prettiest dish, we both loved this Saag Paneer. This creamy spinach dish (saag) is scattered with little cubes of farmer’s cheese (paneer), which never really melts but still lend a creaminess.
Stephen didn’t even realize these two dishes were meatless! Not like I’m trying to get him to be a vegetarian or anything, but I just want him to be more conscious of what he’s eating.
As always, great food from Yaar, and we’ll continue to order from them! Oh, and the orange bowl from the first photo was Butter Chicken which was equally as tasty.
